Times of Lore

Times of Lore was and is one of my favourite games for the C64.
Especially the giant map (16.384 x 12.288 pixels), and how clever it is stored in memory, impresses me. Besides, the graphics are so beautiful... :-)

Thanks to emulators like Frodo its not to difficult today to figure out how the game works, so I was able to write this small program that shows the entire map: ToL-MapViewer.exe

some features:
- complete map
- all dungeons, buildings
- leftclick on a building to see other levels
- different zoom-levels, minimap
- save areas of the map as bmp/jpg (max. 2048 x 2048 pixels)
- no installation needed

some todos / ideas for future versions:
- fix form-refresh-bug
- get graphics for the text
- get sprite-graphics
- show NPCs, at the right positions
- show in-game text
- show animations (water, fire)
- show day/night cycle
- show player, make it possible to wander around
- integrate an editor for savegames (position, gold, food, items...)
- items: get positions, show items on map
- make a Palm-OS version...
- make it possible to save larger images
- make the undefined areas of the map adjustable (for example, printer-friendly in white), hide the dungeons
